Headed up to the mountains hoping to do some trails with a friend, but they were closed. So, headed back down, and right about the time we got to level highway, my, tranny (or something) started acting up. From a stop (in first gear I assume) there was almost no power. I would have it at 3.5-4.5k RPM, but I would barely move. It (I think) would shift into second, same problem. After about fifteen seconds of this, I'd hit 40-45 MPH, it would shift into third, and be fine. Normal response, revs, speed, etc.
Got it back into town, and a mechanic friend said it could be the fluid, so we're doing that now. Fluid was pretty black and burnt. If not that, he said it could be the torque converter, or the whole transmission.
Any comments?

...And the change didn't work. 4 low seems to work a little better than the rest, but it's 4 low. Now it's barely even going into gear, as far as I can tell.
She's my DD, so I need some help on this.

Ok, what the hell is this? It's clicking and leaking some transmission fluid from the top. Is it a solenoid, and could it be causing my problem?
I know transmissions aren't as exciting as lifts and tires but I need some help on this.

My automatic tranny is acting sluggish when i first take off- i try not to rev it up too much to "force" it into second gear-then after a little driving, all is well. But if I go on longer than a 20 minute trip, when I stop, smoke billows up on the drivers side and I see fluid ( which I suspect is transmission) dripping. But I also have an oil adapter o-ring issue that I am having corrected tomorrow, so I don't know if it is possibly oil that is smoking? But i know the fluid I am seeing drip is NOT oil because that is at the front, this fluid is leaking much further back. Help???

You did not mention it, but is your check engine light on? The transmission sets its own codes on this model, and some don't turn on the check engine light. Is there somewhere or someone near you who can plug a scanner in and see what code(s) have been set.?
