Default transmission problems

Need to know if a new filter and fluid changes will do any good at this point. Back last spring I changed the tranny filter and oil and everything was good I thought. Back before xmas I pulled a 5x8 uhaul 250 miles empty got 15.2 mpgs pulled it back 3/4 full 250 miles got 14.2 mpgs now I'm getting 13 and a little over, pulled dipstick today and barely showing anything on it and also saw some shavings on bottom of dipstick. Don't really want to throw a new tranny in it. Just looking for a good suggestion of what I should do as I'm going to be driving 1000 miles to florida and back in mid march.

I wouldn't trust it if you are finding shavings through the dipstick tube. Personally I'd invest in a good jy tranny. Idk what your local scene is but you can get a decent aw4/xcase combo for 300 bills around here.

Yeah I'm thinking about trying a flush and seeing what the mechanic says talked to a friend of mine and he recommended me to go see one that he knows

If you're finding shavings, a flush probably won't do you much good at this point unfortunately. I'd hit up the nearest junkyard if I were you
