I have a 1997 grand cherokee,60,000 miles on jasper transmission. Problem is slipping issues @ normal driving. I've checked all the basics ,fluid level, proper cooling etc... Any ideas?

 

did you install it yourself or have a shop do it? Although Jasper is really good I have seen them ship out bad motors and trannys before. If it is under warranty call them and they should tell you what to do as far as diagnosis. It can get difficult so unless u know trannys really well it would be best to have a shop do it since they got the tools and meters needed. Sorry couldnt be of more help

 

Should have been alittle more clear on the transmission question. Sorry. The transmission was put in new by reputable shop. The slipping issue just started recently. Goes into gear fine, just shows signs of noticeable slipping at normal driving. Mostly between 40 to 50 mph. Have plans to change trans filter and fluid with in next day or so. Cheap out for now. Any ideas to steer me in the right direction would be great!

 

How many times was the fluid changed in the 60,000 miles? Should have been twice.

I generally start with fresh fluid and check the filter (for clues). Use Dex/Merc III. Don't use ATF+4, which has been tied to slippage in some (not all) AW4 transmissions. Sometimes I use a high quality additive like LubeGard Red. Comes highly recommended to me by two guys that rebuild transmissions for a living.
