Default transmission flushing

If your transmission has had fairly regular service (taken to the shop), can you just change the fluids yourself or do you really need to have the system "flushed"? My 98 has about 205K miles on it and seems to shift just fine. It will save me over $100 dollars if I do it myself. My husband used to take care of all this stuff and always took it to the shop for regular maintenance. However, the big C took him away and now it's up to me to take care of the vehicles. I don't have any experience but have a garage full of tools including a hydraulic lift and am willing to learn. I also have a 19 year old son who knows less about cars than I do but can supply muscle if needed. All advice much appreciated.

if it has regular maintance, then there is no problem doing it your self. places like jiffy lube flush the system and im not a big fan of that, becuse they dont replace the filter, they just flush the old oil out and can leave metal in the trans.
