transmission fluid question
going to change the transmission fluid in my 2001 cherokee. bought the jeep off the chevy dealer so i have no clue which fluid they used. they said they changed it, but it looks kinda dirty (light brown color). i done the search and most said to use dex/merc lll. i stop at autozone and picked up 4 quarts of their brand made for chysler. my question is would this be ok to use or i should stick with the dex/mercon lll?
That isn't a Chrysler transmission. AW4 is basically a Toyota transmission (Aisin-Warner) The ATF +4 can cause slippage under certain conditions. Use Dex III/Mercon. Autozone has it in a couple different brands.

Take it back and get Dex/Merc III compatible.
I agree with the other guys. Some AW4s can get by with ATF+4, but "slippage" has occurred in some.
So why take that chance when Dex/Merc has allowed AW4 transmissions to live a long service life.
Stick with Dex/Merc.
