Question Transmission fluid amount?

I am about to change out the filter on my transmission and in the owners manual it list 2 different fluid capacities for the auto. 8 liters (17 pints) for a dry fill, or 4 quarts for a periodic fluid change, I am going to be dropping the pan while getting to the filter so which one do I use?

Question

I am not pulling the trans out, is there ever a time when you are suppose to change the fluid converter? I am pretty sure this is a dumb question, is there a way to drain the converter without dropping the trans?

For some reason, I thought it took almost 6 qts when we did the pan drop/filter change......oh well, that's been almost 2 years ago, slept a little since then.

It's four qts with the filter change ( it's 6 qts of motor oil lol)I used the castrol high mileage when I drained mine. Just make sure you use the type your haynes or other manual tells you to use. You have a book on your jeep right?
