Default transmission filter change

How much atf does it take if your dropping the pan and changing the filter 97 xj 4 speed , also and ideas on how to get the dip stick tube out of the pan?

4-5 qts, IIRC. The dip stick tube does NOT come out of the pan....the tube separates. Look above the pan, u'll see the joint. Search "small tubing cutter"....the joint can be difficult to separate.

Thanks that helps! didnt know if it came out for sure. I also found out it is 4.2 quarts for a service change.

Dayum! I just re-read my post......should have said " the dip stick tube does NOT come out of the pan.....duh. Hope dummy me didn't cause a problem.

I usually get closer to 3.5 quarts with a pan drop on my 99.

Be careful NOT to overfill when all is said and done. Add a little at a time until you have a good level on the dipstick with a hot engine and a fully exercised transmission.
