Transmission Blowing hot air into cabin... help!
OK so I noticed this back when I first purchased my XJ, over long distance drives hot air blows through the emergency brake lever hole and under the plastic center console where the plastic meets the carpet. Its like I have the heater on constantly
, extremely annoying!
Question: is this a common jeep "thing", if not, how can I fix it!?!?
Thanks everyone!

never pulled on off myself but I figure there are some rubber peices that seal the air out. Like a grommet or something. Might be rotted or missing. Pull it off and check it out.

Never heard of that happening!
pull your center console and look where the 2 shifter linkages and ebrake cable goes through the floor.
Something is missing that is allowig air to blow up into the cabin.

Had the same issue after replacing my clutch. There is a second rubber boot (transmission shaft dust boot) under the shift boot mounted in the center console. I was careless when pulling it out and ripped it. Even when you replace it the seal must be air tight or hot air, especially with a window open, will come up and heat up the entire center console and blowing out the sides and e-brake as you described.

Transmission tunnel seal. Tough to find - dealer told me no way Sooooo i used an inner tube and contact cement to repair mine. Real pain in the butt to get clean, but worth the time and effort!!

Thanks a bunch!

So I started snooping around yesterday to try and solve the problem. As I removed the center console I saw the problem right away. The inner boot that is attached to the stick shift was completely gone. I called around to several junk yards but no luck. I guess I'm just going to have to put in a special order for the boot. I did manage to solve the problem by using this thick foam padding. My cabin is that much quieter now!
