Not sure why it won't shift but the 87 model will have a 21 spline input and the 96 will be 23.

sentencestructure helps alot it is very hard to read when peope type like this u kno

Please! if you want to get good answers at least spend some time on your sentence structure and original post.

No, an 87 tcase will not work as it sits.
Are you trying to shift on-the-fly, or sitting in neutral?
Work on explaining whats going on, and Im sure we can help you.

sorry about the structure i was typing fast and im used to typeing like that but i changed the linkage becuase it broke but ive tryed it wen i wasnt moving in neutral and wen i was going about 10mph in neutral before the linkage broke it would go into 4wheel drive with no problems i would barely have to pull on the handle now i have to give alot of force to move it and it fells like it is going to brake off again do you think my transfercase could be empty and have no fluid or something else on the transfercase itself is bent? i would love to get some feed back fast because we are getting about 12-18 inchs of snow tomorrow thanks for your help in advanced and sorry about the ture of my first post

check your adjusters. sounds like they are off and not allowing it to get into gear fully.

like said above the transfercases have different spline counts but ONLY if they both came from I6's... if they were both 4 bangers then your good... but nobody knows because your page, sig, thread isnt filled out with the info needed...

alright so i messed with that bolt on the transfercase linkage to see if it would adjust it to work but it didnt change anything im thinking something inside in the transfercase itself is messed up or something else is bent

If it worked before you swapped the linkage then the linkage is your problem.
