transfercase not going on all the way...

Exclamation transfercase not going on all the way...

goes onto output shaft but then wont go into what i believe is the seal...

np 231 to an AW4

2000 xj

tailshafts are out... will go onto the tailshgaft and bolts are almost showing enough to put nuts on but we cant shimmy it in more.

input shaft is longer than my stock one!!!! :curs ing:


im gonna ask my transmission guy if he can swap em...

Thats why you check these things when you by it... lol
There were 3 different shaft lengths, IIRC
And 2 spline counts, 21 and 23.
I think they can be easily swapped, as long as your old one wasnt damaged.

Good luck! This happened to me on the yj, just had to swap out the input shaft on the t-case.

i recently had to swap the transfer case on my '95 xj and i called my local dealership to verify that my Jeep and the donor jeep came with an identical driveline. Doesn't cost anything and it saved me a lot of time if it had been wrong. The new one bolted right up.....

Make sure he compares the gear cut pitch on both input gears, just because it's 23 spline doesnt mean it is correct. Mixing the pitch will cause problems down the road.
