now I would suggest to get rid of it and put a proper XJ case, because those YJ cases doesn't have true neutral position on it. (Because of the vacuum 4wd )

So what issues will I run into with the YJ case?

Please explain.

The OP may not have a front axle disconnect because he had a 242 TC originally.

Why wouldn't a '98 231 have neutral?

if it was indeed a '98 t case, it wouldn't have the vacuum switch thingamajig on it.

YJ cases don't have true neutral position in it because they still used the vacuum 4wd system on the transfer cases until 1995.

So if he bought the t case from somebody who claimed it came from a 1998 TJ, and it had vacuum switch on it, that person was lying and hoodwinked the buyer.
