Hi y'all--
1988 stock 2-dr xj cherokee 4wd 4.0 6-cyl 5-spd
My transfer case started leaking all of a sudden, and the fluid is hitting my catalytic converter and smoking up into the interior when I drive. Started all of a sudden. I just had the entire clutch system replaced, including master and slave cylinders-- is it likely that this leak was caused by the mechanics who did this work?

Did they change the XJ that much from 88 that the transfer case would leak onto the cat?

It's possible that the mechanics messed something up, but short of dropping the xfer case on the floor they shouldn't have done anything that would cause damage to it. Usually the tranny is removed with the xfer case attached when replacing a clutch.

Can you tell where from the xfer case it's leaking? Pictures may help.

 

Yeah, figure out where it is leaking from first

 

yes, determine where it’s leaking first. probably the output shaft if it’s throwing fluid into the cat. mine did the same thing bc the vent was clogged.
