i have a 1994 cherokee sport an i had to replace the model 231 an i bought a used onebut i have a few peoblems. first i cant get it to lock into 4low. also the hook up for the speedo from my truck is electrical an the one on the transfer case i just put in is not, and the gears a dif size so i cant jus switch the speedo out from the old one. any advice?

 

You can swap the gear and use your electrical one. As far as not shifting into 4 low sometimes it's a bit hard on a bench. Put a wrench on the nut and work it a bit and it should eventually go in. I've found most people never use it and it takes some time getting it to engage.

 

i cant get the gear off, and they fit dif length wise so they cant be switched.

 

The older version uses a long gear and short attachment and the newer uses a shorter gear and long attachment. When I put a 91 model (mechanical speedo) 231 in my 93 ZJ (electrical speedo) I swapped the gear from the the 249 to the 231 and used my factory electrical connector. Worked fine and still does.
