Default Transfer Case Issues.

Hey guys and gals,
Well the Money Pit drove out of the shop today.
Then it promptly quit puling with a pop from the xfer case.
Well after trying to adjust it again and again, I figured out its not shifting out of low range. 35mph is it top end.

So now the question, will a transfer case from an automatic XJ bolt up to an AX15 tranny?
The bad case is a NP231 and I'm pretty sure the other one is too. An 88 model XJ.

Thanks

Being an 88 it may not be an AX15. If you PM the last nine of your VIN i can look up and see what it was built with and find the part number for the Xfer case to see if they are different

The XJ I'm fixing is an 87, but it has an AX15, I about never did figure that out, but thansk to someone on the board here helped with the correct pilot bearing number. The AX5 I think it is has a lot smaller pilot.

I can crawl under the parts XJ tomorrow and see if its a NP231, I just need to know if the tranny bolt pattern is the same between the automatics and the AX15 transfer cases.

Default The collective Looses again.

Well from another forum, that is not even a Jeep forum, I found the answer to the question.
The Automatic uses a 21 Spline xfer case the AX15 uses uses a 23 spline.

For future reference and in case anyone needs the info no one here had, here is a link.
