Default transfer case into 2wd tranny

Does anybody know if its possible to bolt on a transfer case to a 2wd tranny out of a 97 Cherokee? The tranny in question is an automatic.
Thank you for any info provided.

No, you need a 4wd auto trans. The 2wd trans has a longer rear output shaft requiring a complete teardown to swap.

Thanks. I was thinking of converting a 97 2wd cherokee sport into a 4wd using the parts of my 90 cherokee laredo. Just because Im getting a good deal on it (and not to mention that the 97 has half the miles of my 90) but Im not sure if its worth it.

If your getting a good deal then why wouldn't it be worth it? Of course IMO I wouldn't tear the 90 up to put the 97 together. Just buy another front end, tranny and t case. Waahlah!! It shouldn't cost that much but then when you get done it might be just a money pit. You'll learn a lot bit may be able to buy a 4x4 for the same price. Plus you'll have to make sure of other things like same gear ratio front end, linkage, shifter, all that good stuff. If I remember right you need a year specific tranny or it won't read with the comp, it's like 96-97 tranny. Most likely need another comp to read 4wd outputs. Just throwing these things out there man. Still the 97 could be a good daily driver and would allow you to build the **** out of your 90
