How do I find out if I have a dana or a chrysler rear axle?

search. there are pictures of them all over! also you could look at the axle. DANA is printed in a number of different spots if its indeed a Dana axle.

here ya go. being you have a stock (assuming) 2000 xj with a 4.0, auto, you most likely have a Chrysler 8.25 with 3.55 gears.

Just looked at your specs, you would have 3.07 gears with a manual tranny.

Commmonly it's the 8.25.
