Default Transfer Case Chain Slack

I’ve given up on the 2wd conversion and figure on fixing the transfer case noise. I think I found the problem. The case was free of any debris or metal shavings, and here is what I see.

How much slack should there be, if any?

Where is the best place to purchase a replacement?

I’m located in Tampa Florida. And this only going to see regular duty driving.

Thanks.

Without the rear of the transfer case installed, the two shafts that hold the chain tend to move inward towards each other, making the chain seem more slack than it really is.

Added gear give makes sense. I'm into now so I might as well keep going.
This mud cover or sleeve is fighting me, I'm ready to just slice it off if I can buy another one separately without a whole kit?
Anyone know the actual part name for this?
