Transfer case.
but i have an 88 XJ 4 Door
with 97k on the clock.
my trans case slips while driving at any speed at random intervals
also, when accelerating from a stop, it slips and takes time to kick in, at any speed take-off as well.
any ideas?
i added rear main seal stop leak to the engine oil
as well as more atf since its been leaking for a while now
thank you!

are you talking about your transmission or transfer case? your transfer case has nothing in it to slip,if it slipped it would only do it once.
You must be talking transmission.

okay well, thats a start. Thanks!!
hmm
a friend of mine mentioned something about the chain inside stretching and maybe needing a replacement.
does that sound like a possibility with only 97 on the clock?

I doubt its the chain or even the transfer case. From what I read, the chain is only even engaged when in 4x4. I'm guessing your transmission is slipping especially if its an automatic.

Take it to a tranny shop, Automatic transmissions are all (well mostly) a full hydralic system, if its slipping 9 times out of 10 it needs rebuilding.
