Default Transfer case

The fluid in my transfer case was real watery when I checked it. Why is this?

They use automatic transmission fluid, usually.

Not a lot to go on in your post....

Color?
Smell?
Consistency?
Favorite after dinner snack?
Pictures would help a great deal.
Just an FYI. Your transfer case uses Dexron III

Water in it is possible and it needs to be changed at regular times just like the differentials and transmission. All of these need to be changed more often if you run in areas of lots of mud /water crossings.

Do you have a cap on the breather hose? Do you have a breather hose or just the elbow sticking out?

I have a breather hose that runs up to the top of the trans. Im confused because I cant recall going in any deep water that may have caused my breather to suck in water. But im not sure, I might have.
