A buddy of mine was having trouble getting shifted into 4low on the trail. I climbed under and pushed the transfer case up about a half inch and it slid right in, but if he twisted it up it would kick out. Hope that helps

There is an adjustment bolt on the top rail. Put into gear and loosen the bolt and then retighten it when you are sure the shift handle is in the groove the tcase is in gear.

Yeah, a tranny mount is suspect too. Or you can crack open the transfer case.. I know you said the linkage is fine, but I can't help but lean to faulty linkage out or a tranny mount popping the linkage away. The torque from four low is enough to move the assembly away.

I had the exact same problem, which is the reason I got rid of all the linkage. I crawl under the jeep and put it in lo and i know its going to stay there.
