im new to these jeeps and dont know to much about them i have an 88 cherokee 4.0 auto trans. wen i bought it it needed a transfercase cause the old one the case had a hole in it its a 242 so i put a new case in it and now the trans wont engage into any gear any suggestions? would really appreciate it

 

The transfer case is in neutral?

 

That way the first thing I thought.

 

i dont believe so but im not sure. it clicks into everygear with the 4x4 handle in the truck how would i go about checking if it was in neutral

 

Put it in drive and see what happens. When my tc was in neutral it didn't matter what gear she was in. But I've got the 231 though. Don't really imagine it would be any different really if in neutral. But the 242 is a whole different beast though. Apples to oranges really.

 

i did i put it in every gear reverse drive neutral ect. along with the transfer case put it in 4 lo 4 hi neutral. it basically feels like the trans is in neutral at all time it will not move and to add when in park it still rolls like the parking pin isnt engaging

 

Sell it to me.....cheap. Than I'll tell you what's wrong with it..
