Default Trans tunnel hump very hot

Drove to the store today and when I came out the cel was on so I went to autozone to get the code read, it said no codes found on their reader. Drive to work 20 miles and my passenger noticed how hot the trans hump was on his side. Checked fluid doesn't smell burnt and color is fine in the transmission. I used 4x4 for the first time today so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Appreciate any ideas or suggestions what I need to check.

Do they have emissions testing in Ohio? The catalytic converter is right there as well and throws off a ton of heat. Unless the transfer case has a bunch of sensors that ODB2 uses I'd guess either the extra load on the engine driving all wheels caused this or it's just a coincidence.

May be catalytic converter or O2 sensors. How's the temp gauge look?

No emissions , temp is normal just under 210.

What heat setting was it on? The floor one where it blows heat back to the rear too? Mine gets hot on the console/hump when I run that setting for a while.

Check your fluid level! Is the level up?
You should go for a crawl underside. Is there any sign of a trans fluid leak under your jeep? The trans cooler lines run out the passenger side of the AW4, could hot fluid be spraying on the tunnel and your passenger noticed the high temp?
Is there and exhaust leak as the pipe passes over to the passenger side and turns into the cat conv. Is the connection to the cat conv secure? Was there a heat sheild, is it deteriorated?

It was on floor defrost but low and this is the first time it's been that hot, and with the cel not being able to be read I'm confused. It wasn't just warm it was hot to the touch
