Default Trans slips only in 4lo

When driving in 2wd my aw4 drive fine throughout the rpm range. But if i put it in 4lo as soon as i go above 2500rpm regardless of trottle position, the trans just lets go and acts like its in nuetral. As soon as you hit 2500rpm going down the jeep will jump as the trans catches again.

Other than this i have no problems at all and the fluid in at the correct level and red and unburnt.

Jeep is a 87 cherokee 4x4 4.0 with 150k
6in lift on 40s with 5.13 gears

It sounds like you may have a problem with the transfer case and not the trans. Have you checked the fluid in it. Also make sure that the linkage is tight and not causing it to engage all the way.

I thought that to but, why would it be at exactly at 2500rpm and be fine in 2wd? I'll do it anyways but still

I agree sounds more like a TC problem then trans. The fact that it runs fine while in 2wd shows this. It works fine in 2wd, but not in 4lo. When you shift between these you are not changing anything about the trans, but you are changing the TC.

I have the same exact problem for months and still haven't fixed it. Does 4 lo work fine in reverse? Mine started slipping around 2500 rpm in drive but now it does it all the time. Works just fine in reverse. I have even adjusted my linkage. I have not yet check the fluid but thats next to check. Im just about to drop my tc and open her up to see whats wrong. Same era of jeeps too. 89 renix 4.0 aw4 np231
