Default Trans pan drain bolt stripped

I changed the trans filter/fluid on my 94 Cherokee today and when I reinstalled the little drain plug/bolt it was getting snug then just turned loose again. It seems to get slightly tight but then will be loose so I know it`s stripped. My question is which is more likely to be stripped the bolt or the threads on the pan? Either way its not a huge problem just to seal it with something but I`d rather not have to change the whole pan off again. Thanks for anyone who`s had this occur before and has some input.

Mine is the same way. And this was when I was trying to drain it. I pulled my pain and tried to figure it out but still could not. I just slapped some RTV on it just incase since I could not be sure if it was tight or not.

Any future tranny fluid changes will involve removing the pan again which is a real PIA.

mine was stripped when I bought it. It has one of those rubber/plastic expand plugs in there. It never has leaked or anything.
