trans overdrive problems
96 I6 high output 4x4 with 111,000 miles on it.
drives fine for first 20 minutes or so then overdrive seems to kick off, and if i press the gas pedal about half way itll go back to od, untill i let off gas then back to no od. i have no check engine light on, and the problem doesnt happen all the time. when its acting up and i come to a complete stop itll go back to normal for a lil bit then back to no od.
i just did a trans fluid and filter change, so im kinda stumped here since im not getting a check engine light coming on at all, please help!!!!

yea somewhat, but seems to be worse now, but is not a frequent problem maybe only happens everyother time i take it out abouve 50. i did notice when i checked the fluid level it was between max and add so i duno if that would be an issue or not. it does drop rpms when i go from any gear to park or neutral, but is fine going into gear.

i had an issue where the jeep would hesitate and buck, and feel like it was going to die, and then it would make a popping backfire noise from the intake. my gas milage suffered and every time driving this thing down the road it would act up. my point is that this never threw a code. turns out it was my down stream o2 sensor that was not working right. but for 5 months i scratched my head and threw parts at it to get it right. so unless you have gotten it on a code reader to see if there are codes stored in there that havent tripped the CEL then anything is possible. the IAC valve, TPS and CPS are all units that measure the amount of air, fuel, or throttle position to regulate how your engine is running. granted, something of this nature should throw a code. but like i said, i went for 5 months with the jeep driving like **** before the CEL came on... a vac line leak is common, so thats a good, cheap test. your kick down cable is pretty easy to, look for a thread on it, one has a handy diagram to accompany it.

To adjust the TV cable you:
1: Push in and hold the release button
2: While holding in release button, push "conduit" in as far as it will go
3: Release button
4: Rotate throttle to WOT, some people do this with the gas pedal. Others do it from the engine compartment.
5: Hold at WOT for a few seconds, cable should ratchet out a click or two.
6: Your TV cable should now be properly adjusted, take it for a test ride.

just did the cable adjustment and did notice cable tightened about 1/8", cuz i can see the nice shinny cable sticking out a little bit. took it for small test drive and noticed a difference in shifting through out all gears, think i will try adjusting it again and taking longer trip. i did forget to mention that when od is working and i let off gas the rpms drop to 1,ooo and when i give it gas the rpms go back to where they were, after adjustment rpms drop to 1,500 now, so duno if thats a jeep thing or maybe i need more adjustment, thanks again.
