Trans Leak or overfilled?
Hi Everyone, it's my first post.. hoping you can help.
My XJ seems to have a transmission leak.. best I can tell it's coming from one of these two lines in the picture.
Background: I bought this 1999 xj 4L sport with 135k on it earlier this year. It has ran great, but then last week I noticed it was shifting a bit funny.. like reving higher than it should. I immediately stopped driving and checked the fluid and saw that it was low so I added some. The shifting issue fixed immediately, but then I noticed the leak.
The dipstick for trans is impossible to read, and I'm thinking I may have overfilled it. I can't quite see the trans fluid coming out.. but it looks like it's coming from where there is a rubber hose clamped joining two metal lines (see picture).
Guess my questions are:
1. If I overfilled it, would it appear as a leak in this spot (see picture)
2. Is this area known to leak.. if so should I just replace the short piece of hose? It's strange, the hose does not look damaged at all..

hey whats up man, id go ahead and get some better hose clamps on there. or you could try to tighten them, but those clamps may just get loose again, then spray it down with some brake cleaner and clean it real good, drive it around some more and see if you have more trans fluid coming from that same spot. then if you really wanted to you could do a draw and fill of your transmission pan through the drain plug and just check how many quarts the pan takes to make sure you have the right amount of fluid in there, hope this helps.
