I really ***** foot my vehicles anyway. This is 95% DD and rarely off-road due to the fact there are NO trails near by...

i have an auto in my 88 waggy and it runs strong....no probs at all.........my buddy has an 89 waggy with auto and 33's and never had any probs...tho we prob will now that i said they were so good haha

Just a little insight on the AW4 in the XJ's it's the same auto tranny used in the Toyota Turbo Supra's and they push 900HP out of them. The AW4 is a great tranny. As of now if and when my 42re in my ZJ kicks the bucket it's being replaced with a AW4...

I work at a Jeep dealer as a trans tech and the only aw4 I ever replaced had 140k on it and the owner wanted a new one, aw4 is in 4.0 xj's. The 999 is an old mopar 3 speed and is fairly reliable, if it breaks it's a rear clutch. It's in most tj's and yj's. zj's have mostly 42re and 46re which are old mopar 999 and 727 trans with overdrive added. Most failures here are in the overdrive unit or in electronics. New wk and xk (Grand and Commander) have 45rle and they are holding up real well as are the 42rle in Liberty and jk but these are fairly new and well tested.
