just out of curosity, can you take the 4 speed auto tranny out of a cherokee and use it in a wrangle? if you swap the bell housing, and possibly the transfer case.
wrangler is a 4.0 2001 4 spd auto. and tranny is shot, wondering if you can swap bell housings and put it into the wrangler without major issues.
donor would come from a cherokee or grand with a 4.0 as well.

 

the first thing that comes to mind, is the aw4 is computer controlled. so trying to install that in a vehicle that isn't, would be quite the task.

i would stay far far away from the grand tranny's they are crap on a good day.

best one i could think of is the 700r4 from maybe a mid 80's camaro. advanced adapters makes an adapter plate to bolt it up to the 4.0L. a quick call to AA will get you all the info you need.
