Tranny question
Ok this is my deal. Ive gotta 85 XJ with a 2.5 and an AX-5. So I bought a bone yard AX-5and a new clutch set. I got everything back to the house and start to install the clutch but the new pressure plate wouldnt line up. So I start to compare and measure everything and the old clutch is 9 5/8" and the new is 9 1/8". So I take it back to the parts house and say wth!!! They dont know whats goin on we're lookin at diff years and everything trying to find out whats goin on. And finally I tell them to break out the parts book. Low and behold its a 4 speed clutch set and flywheel that was installed on my 2.5L. So I try to make things right and get the right flywheel for it, well none of the part stores or shops can get one anywhere. The local boneyards dont even have one. So my only option that I know of is to use the 4 speed set up for now until I can find the right flywheel later. The center diameter is the same as the 5 speed, 1"x14 spline, but the overall diameter is 1/2" larger at 9 5/8". The question is will it hurt anything and will it work?!?!?
