Tranny problems
Hi,
I have a 95 Cherokee automatic, that I think is having a tranny problem, it seems to shift fine 1-3 but I get a ton of vibration and it seems to be really slow when shifting into 4th, Im not even sure it is even shifting into 4th, once I hit about 55 mph it seems to go away.
I can manually shift it back into 3rd and then speed up to 50-55 and then put it back into drive and she will do fine.
IF anyone can help me that would be great.

I have only had the rig about 6 months so I am not really sure, I know it was a little low yesterday when I checked it so I added more.

I can't really help you, but I can prob for more information that may help someone else help you.
I am assuming because of where you posted that your Cherokee is unmodified? If not what has been done to it? Have you checked the flexplate? I ask about the flexplate because your description about everything being fine once you got into 4th sounds like how mine was acting. Mine wasn't vibrating, and shifted fine, but 1-3 it sounded like it was coming apart or had a spun bearing, once in 4th it was dead quiet and you would swear that there was nothing wrong. It could be that the plate is starting to loosen and that is causing the vibration and once the torque converter locks up, AKA 4th, it settles down like mine did.
When I got it home (I just bought mine and because of the noise I was able to pick it up dirt cheap) I dropped the inspection plate and could see the loose bolts and ovaled holes. I snugged up the bolts and that exposed a 1" crack, but with the bolts tightened there was no more noise.
I just picked up my new flexplate and need to install it this weekend.

You are correct, my jeep is bone stock, I just got new wheels and tires for it, they are 235/75/r15s.
My jeep seems to be fine 1-3 but as soon as I get to 45-50 mpg I start to get this weird shake and then lose a ton of power, If I floor it, the jeep takes a about 5 to 10 sec before it will really start to speed up. Once I get to 55 the jeep with shift into what i think is 5th and then runs fine. I really dont know tho, I could be totaly wrong about it...
