Question Tranny fluid help

Getting ready to put a new filter and changing fluid in my 93 AW4. How many quarts do I need to put in when doing this? One source says 4 quarts, but I've also heard it takes 5 or 6 quarts. Which one is true? Thanks

It depends on how long you let it drain and how tight your pump is.

I've put as little as 3.5 and as much as 5 quarts.

Do your filter, seal it back up, and dump 3 quarts in it. Start the engine and cycle the shifter through all ranges. Check the fluid running (just like any other time).

I'm pretty sure the factory manual says 4 quarts.

x2 If you park with the front end up hill more will drain out also. I would pull the plug and let it drain, then slide a floor jack under the front end to drain even more. The more of the old stuff you get out the better. Just buy 5-6 quarts and take back what you don't need. Better than just buying 4 and not having enough. Sorry no one can really give you an exact answer.
