Default Tranny: Is it cold or bad?

So, I drove my jeep the whole 1/4 mile to school this morning because it was 30 degrees out. It started up and ran like a champ. Same on the way back and the second trip over. When I went to leave the second time, reverse was there 100%, but drive was lacking. It didn't sit there and rev, it moved a little bit, but really slowly. I got it back to my apartment and checked the fluid level, which was full. The fluid has a slight burnt smell, but it's been that way since I took it mudding a few months ago.

The tranny is original with around 270k miles, the past 100k with 31s. It hasn't had a flush in at least 12 years, but my dad did the whole drain and refill thing once. I've had the same thing happen with my dad's honda rincon. If it isn't warmed up, all 3 gears slip.

Any ideas? The engine doesn't run rough at all.

Drained/re-filled 12 years ago??????.......might want to drain/re-fill for grins and see what happens. Preventative maintenance is money well spent, especially for a daily driver. U may have gotten all the goody out of it u r going to get. May be time to pay the piper.

No, it hasn't had a proper flush in at least 12 years. My dad did the drain and fill a few years ago, and I drained and filled it once last winter.

I've never "flushed" a tranny......just regular fluid drain/filter change/re-fill.

Drain, new filter, pan gasket most often comes with the filter, refill with Dextron fluid.

Alright, thanks for the suggestions guys. If I do flush it, I'll be taking it to my buddy's dad's shop. He said the flush is run by the tranny's pump instead of forcing new fluid through. Another possibility I was told was the shift solenoid. I'll be taking it for a drive later today to try it out.

Fixed it. There was a short in my shift mod.
