Default Train horns?

I've decided i want to put train horns on the jeep, anybody know of a good place to put em? probably gonna be a 2 gallon air tank so it'll need a place too. I've got the 4 banger, so lots of room between the radiator and grill.

Most of the xj's that I have seen have had them under the body.

I thought that train horns used exhaust or engine compression to fire them? Oh wow that would be cool though, I saw a guy like flip off his bike cause a train blew its horn near him.

Probably to keep mud & road grit out of the bugles.

I can't imagine that is a good environment for them though, they might get knocked off while wheeling.

Make sure you mount them backwards like he did if they are under your rig.I think maybe that way any ways so it wont push you backwards with that little 2.5 (j/k)Name: rofl[1].gif

Search on ebay for "train horn booklet". Theres a guy that sells plans for $15 on how to make them from PVC fittings and they are just as loud as the real deal and nearly as durable. I think it costs around $50 to build 3 or 4. Its what I'm gonna do when I get my air tank bumper put on. You can make them what ever size you want too, even big enough for a ship horn.

Heres his youtube video:

Kinda funny he mounts his on a golf cart though, he didn't glue one of his bells on too and the resonance blows it off. Most states have laws about using horns this loud on highways though, so check your laws, or just take the tickets.

i used to be big into mini trucks and train horns seemed to show back up at shows a few years ago and facing the rear is a fast route for sound to escape and the decible factor as well but i dont know if bein mounted underneather the decibles are such a issue but could be i know in the bed of a pick up it was

Is that because of the doppler effect? I'm assuming it helps when your moving forward. I thought about mounting them in the engine compartment facing straight down to reflect the sound of the pavement, making it less directional, and a little more "poop your pants" if your next to me
