Track bar ?
Hi everyone i have a 1995 jeep cherokee with 180,000 miles on it O.O and was wondering if i could have some good advise. Every time i turn left i hear a knock noise in my drivers side . I then told my brother to get in the car and keep turning back and fourth while i was underneath and i narrowed it down to the drivers side track bar. I can even grab that side of the track bar and slightly move it. my question is should i just try to tighten all the bolts first or would someone know what part i would need to replace?
Thanks in advance Mark~

I have the same problem - I posted a few days ago. I would suggest trying to just tighten it. Mine wouldn't tighten and I am going to have to replace my track bar and track bar mount.
Im going to just try to tighten eveything and go from there i will let everyone know what it was. should i be able to move the track bar a little bit though or should i not be able to move it at all? i dont think its my tie rod end but will dubble check to make sure.
Thanks again guys!

The driver's side of the trackbar is basically a tie-rod end and should be inspected like one. And the results/outcome should be the same.
Some movement rotationally (twisting) is common but should be difficult at the least.
Any other movement laterally/vertically are sure signs that the "end" is worn and should warrant replacement.
IF you need a "stock" unit (0" lift) a Spicer brand trackbar can be purchased rather inexpensively thru http://www.rockauto.com Delivered to my door...less than $50.
IF you need a trackbar for a lifted XJ, best to utilize the "SEARCH" option of the forum menu bar. Why? Everyone has thier opinion on which is the best (better) aftermarket trackbar. Better if you do a bit of "research" first.

i had that same problem on mine basically the bolts holding the track bar
bracket only tighten so far and the nuts bottom out on the bolt threads.
all i did was add a lock washer to the bolts and it was fixed.

I had the same problem on mine. I finally got around to putting my new one in this weekend and that was when we found out how bad my old one was. The joint at the driver side was shot and the whole ball was turning when i tried to loosen it. Then the bolt on the axle side was broke inside the bushing. So it was held there by nothing more than a rusty bolt. We had to torch the ball end off and had to bend the axle bracket way out to get the other end out and then had to plate the bracket that we bent. hope that is not the problem you got.
Update ! i got underneath and tryed to tighten the bolt on the drivers side track bar with no luck ....
the nut turned but it dident tighten at all so i think that the track bar really needs replaced. surprisingly the knock noise is gone when i trun left and i did nothing 0o ...but now when i push on the gas there is a whining noise only threw 5 to 10 mph after that it stops what could this be ? and what will i have to do to get the track bar off now that that bolt just truns? thanks

I would say get a new track bar - that is my plan - I am going to upgrade to something adjustable and replace it when I do my lift. I just need to get s10 rear leafs and wait for the weather in North Dakota to warm up (I got so used to the nice Colorado weather).
