Default Trac lok rebuild cost.

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had a shop do it and what was the typical cost (c8.25 29spline). Dont want a locker as its my dd and the oem trac lok clutches are pretty well shot with 311000km (193000mi). Thank you.

I would guess between $250-400 USD because of the labor. The carrier has to come out and then backlash set when it goes back in.

I've done this a couple of times. The only tool needed is the tool to work the side adjusters which you can get on Amazon for less than $75 or make your own. A dial indicator may not be in your toolbox but could be and used for other purposes. Apart from that a rubber mallet and some threaded rod, washers, and nuts will get the job done. I use old 4.0 head bolts. If the shop can't give you a quote, then I'd question whether or not the mechanic doing it would do a good job. You may want to find another shop. There are some mechanics who are amazing with their work and will do a great job even if they've never done a job before. But there are others who I wouldn't want to touch my car. And certainly the more someone does something the faster they get, which when you're getting charged straight time, means less money out of pocket to you.

well I see a new trac lok runs around $310 ( http://autoplicity.com/2017686-dana-...S-UaAv7Y8P8HAQ ) with a quick search so keep that in mind. I would compare the cost of rebuilding the existing unit and replacing with a new unit and installing it. sometimes the prices are about the same.

Replacing the carrier may require even more work to set pinion depth.
