Default Overheating

Quick overview- I have flushed the cooling system, replaced the thermostat, replaced the radiator, replaced both upper and lower hoses.
The temp sits at 210* when moving but when at a stop light the temp sky rockets to almost 260*. When I go in neutral and accelerate the rpm's to around 3000 the temp goes right back down.

Please help!

Sounds like fan clutch is bad..with the jeep off and up to temp let it sit for about 4mins try to see if the fan can be spun easily by hand. If it spins freely and does not feel like its tight and or hard to spin by hand( should have resistance to hand spinning) that's where I would start

Is your e-fan working? coming on?

The clutch is/was bad. Squealed like a pig when I started the heep up and had a lot of play... so I replaced it.
Now the electric fan only turns on when the temp hit 210* ?!?
And the heep still overheated in my driveway after installing the new fan clutch.

Slowly went up to 210* took around 10 minutes. Then it skyrocketed to almost 260* in less then 5 seconds after the e-fan kicked on

If everything else is new/working, probably air in the system that needs to be burped. Efan at 210 is normal

Well today was the first day that I was able to move enough since the car accident to work on my heep.
I burped the system again and got more air bubbles out of the coolant system.
But my temp still in not right. Before it would always sit at 210* when idling but now its sitting like this Overheating-imag0215.jpg

Overheating-imag0216.jpg I had the XJ running for around 30 minutes after burping the system at this point. It never went any higher but it also never wanted to go down on its own.

Any Ideas?

It's fine as is. Turn your AC on and see if the temp drops below 210. Mine will sit just over 210 with AC off, then drop a tick below with AC on (idling). If the temp isn't getting any higher than where she sits now I wouldn't worry about it (efan comes on at about 218 without AC)

If it's an '01 the first steps should always be a compression/cooling system test before dumping a lot of money in to it.

Well I replaced the thermostat with one that opens at 160*. and flushed the system until it ran clear.
After burping it I put the radiator cap back on and ran the motor for around 10 minutes before coolant started to spew out from under the radiator cap

did you get a new cap, if not holding pressure it will run hot especially at idle with less air flow

I replaced the cap when I replaced the radiator. I'm thinking of trying the old cap out just to see if it holds so I can get another new one

maybe bad cap, I've had it happen on my chevelle. Scared the crap out of me at the stop light with all the steam that all of the sudden blew out, had no hood .

Thats what I was thinking at first except for the fact that I ran that cap for nearly a week. But it still could have gone bad. I'm gonna try my old cap since it still worked well enough. at least long enough for me to get a new one

Well I burped it again and it skyrocketed to 260* again. And my neck and back is bad enough again that I can't move so looks like it will have to wait again for me to fix it

Have you checked to make sure there isn't a head/head gasket problem. Compression tested the system?
