Default TPS Troubles ???

I just got to start working on my 89 Cherokee. I had trouble with it shifting up or down. I believe from what I have been told that is is most likely the TPS. I tried to test it today, then realized that I had just enough info to get confused. Seems I had parts of 2 differnt ways to test it. I got confused because one said to check the flat plug, the other said to check the square one. If someone has a link to the info, I would sure appreciate it so I can do it right. I figure I am going to have to have it anyway to set it when I get a new one, if that is what I need. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I read something about the voltage somewhere, and I think my reading was a little low, think it was right on 4 volts, or 4.1. Would that mean it does need replacing?

I'm pretty sure that anywhere from 4.0 to 5.0 volts is good...5.0 volts is just optimum.

Try adjust your output voltage correctly first and see where that gets you. At 4.1 volts that should be 3.40V.
