TPS is not related to the time or manner in which it shifts.

Hmmmmmmm, every other site that I have checked out and every mechanic that I have spoken to have all said that the TPS is messed up...

Throttle position sensor reads how far the butterfly is open and works in unison with the cps to make sure the right air/fuel ratio is put into each cylinder before firing.

Default Shifting issue...

I agree with Diesel as I learned that lesson not too long ago. The TPS does not affect shift quality. The linkages/cables which are connected to the TPS via the throttle-blade shaft might affect shift points and/or shift quality. I'm not as expert as Diesel but I'll recommend a few basics anyway. Confirm that the throttle-body throat, throttle blade "butterfly" and IAC are clean and clear then check actuation and freedom of operation for the Throttle Valve Cable - you may be experiencing a little bit of linkage/cable-bind. Otherwise, shifting issues may be caused by transmission fluid (i.e., low, old and/or contaminated). On another note, a recent discovery for me was the CPS - apparently it can degrade slowly rather than just fail. CPS degradation can manifest in the form of seemingly weird shift-points. Good throttle response and crisp shift points returned after replacement (in retrospect, following a complete & total CPS failure).

Sounds like it, try manually shifting it, if that works its a TCU fuse.

Fuse-In the power(12V) line that goes to pin C15 on your TCU connector.

Check that.

The throttle position sensor is the most important input for the TCU to calculate shift points. If the tps does not work the tranny won't shift out of first gear. On the RENIX models the tps is a double potentiometer providing 0-5v sweep for the ECU and 5-0v sweep for the TCU, on the later models, the TPS is a single unit providing a 5-0v sweep for both computers, the output wire is spliced into two wires.
If the tranny isn't shifting properly after the TPS has been replaced it might be an issue of kick down cable adjustment or TPS adjusment on the renix models.

Feelings Diesel? Don't be too hard on yourself. At least we tried to help, which is more than can be said for many.

My situation, as related, was true for me. That doesn't mean you or I can't learn something new - or be reminded of something we forgot.

As I tell my friends "I may not always be right but I'm never wrong"!

I replaced my TPS and now I get an O2 code. And the whole ship is running even worse. O2 senser was new, had new plugs, figured i would replace again incase of foul play and 2 completly desentigrated on pull. put new plugs back in feels like no gas or something.all new gas stuff WTF over.
