tps diagnosis - real time!
I had an intermittent drivability problem. Ran fine when at steady highway speed, but sometimes all sorts of racing/stumble, downshift, etc.when changing speeds. Especially when releasing throttle to brake. Passed voltmeter test on tps. OK for a few days... so tried this....
Back probe the middle wire with a paperclip, but attached an extra long wire. Long enough to exit the hood at the cowl and int the cab through the door. Connect to voltmeter, connect to ground. Cover all connections to ensure no shorts. Drive 'er! Problem crops up? Turn on voltmeter, wedge on the dash for heads-up display and watch feedback in real time.
gotcha! Wonky voltages easy to see next time it happened. Replace tps.
