The owners manual states to leave the transmission in park and the transfer case in neutral when flat towing with all four tires on the ground.

They tow the same as long as it's a 4x4 with either CommandTrac or SelectTrac transfer cases.

IMHO, the XJ makes an excellent "toad". They are light and easy to setup. I got so sick of wiring up lights that I went out and bought a set of wireless tow behind lights. They are fantastic, and I recommend them over the work it takes to hard wire lights in.

I have read a lot of positives about automatics, can you use a 5 speed in the same way as an auto for a toad? Would you leave it in gear and put the transfer case in neutral?
