Default Torque converter

Not a question...just a comment.

I bought this 94 with the understanding that it had a bad case of piston slap. Thanks to a real mechanic...instead of your's truly, the barnyard type of mechanic...I learned today that the torque converter was loose. Tighten the bolts and, voila', the noise, eet is gone. No piston slap...never was none. I feel like an idiot.

Apparently, a real mechanic has heard things like this before and knows the difference in sounds. He also knew that my shocks, which I thought were worn out or broken, are Gabriels and are fairly new and in fine condition. What was making the noise, besides the TC, is the hardware on the right front caliper is worn out and the caliper is banging around a bit.

So, so far I've bought $180 worth of TRE's and took them back and $150 worth of shocks and took them back. That's like $330 worth of parts I do not need. All because I don't know what I'm doing and a real mechanic DOES.

Sometimes it pays to just give a pro a half-hour's time and learn what is wrong instead of just replacing parts.

Anyway, I'm geeked that I've got a 206,000 mile motor with no slap that otherwise runs like a sewing machine.
