Default Top Radiator Hose always empty

Hey guys.

I just put a new radiator and thermostat into my cherokee and the temp is constantly creeping up at idle. I have noticed that the top radiator hose never seems to have anything in it but air. It feels nice and pressurised when the car is hot, but as soon as I switch the engine off it empties out.

Ive never had a car where the radiator cap is below the hose so I dont know if this is normal or not, wondering if any of you guys can confirm or deny.

What year is the vehicle, just wondering if it is an open or closed system. The old ones are a bear to get all the air out of.

you probally still have air trapped in the system...Take off the cap squeeze the lower hose and keep filling till you see no more air bubbles.

The problem im having is that filling through the radiator cap is never going to fill the top hose because the hose sits above the filling point, like trying to make water run uphill.

you are going to have a little space in the system because that line is above your fill point. bleed out as much has you can and then it should be ok but it might take a bit of time to get it all out

Well I hooked a hose up to the system to get some pressure in there and water started spewing out the radiator cap, replaced the cap and I think thats solved it
