Default Top dead center
How do I go about getting into top dead center to put my distributor back in? I heard there are markings on the timing cover but I do not see them. I also hear that from the first cylinder you feel air compress from the spark plug when it has reached.

Yep, remove spark plug #1 and get to cranking the harmonic balancer with your finger over the spark plug hole.
