Easy question -- I just got my Cherokee and I've been doing some work on it myself and plan on doing more. I've been borrowing tools, but I'm ready to buy some, so my question is what tools are the most important and do you find you use the most?

I'm not lifting it or anything, just general maintenance and repair.

Thanks!

I'm banging my head over these freaking Torx bolts. I gotta go get a set of Torx sockets. I've never had any before, and it's stopping a lot of the crap I want to do to my rig.

The amount of times I've taken my wheels off for "general maintenance", an impact wrench is a definite plus.

Default X3 Rule...

Some great pointers listed above. You say you have been borrowing tools... If you have to borrow the same tool a third time you should own one! After my EX had one hell of a yard sale I didn't even have a screw driver. Pay attention to what you borrow the most and start with yardsales, pawn shops and harbor freight. Then start replacing the ones you use enough to wear out or destroy with a quality replacements...

Can anyone recommend a good torque wrench? Seems like I'll probably need one of those too.

Anywhere from $10 to $400...just get an inexpensive 1/2 " drive click or beam type for now.

Eventually, you will want to get some air tools, but for now, Crescent has a real nice 148 piece starter set 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive ratchets and sockets, combination wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. inch and metric on sale around here for $72.

Good advice about if you have to borrow it more than a couple times...buy it... and remember, you can never have enough tools!
