Default Too much flex?

Today pulling out of the driveway in my 89 I hear a thud! Thud! Then my tires locked up. I have No idea What it was. So I looked under it and found that one of the link rods to the transfer case has come out of the hole? How does this happen? The transfer mount and crossmember are solid so I don't see how it could scoot over enough to pop out. Anyone think that the Thud sound was the transfercase trying to lock in because the links are loose? I tried to get it to do it again to see if it was front or rear locking up because my rear is welded and I was thinking that it had finally blown out. But turning around. The rear stills feels locked up tight. I Just did the front ujoints on it Friday. But everything Looks good there..

Also. While doing the front ujoints. I found that I have 2 different axle shafts. The driver took a 1 1/16 ujoints and the other took a 1 1/8 (I think). Anyone seen something like that?

Have you looked at your tranny mount?

Check it again, it's about the only thing that will allow the tranny to move far enough for the rod to come out.

One's a late-model shaft the other's an early-model. 1996 or so the D30 got larger U joints. Someone broke one and swapped it.

There's a small nylon bushing in that hole and maybe yours was worn out, and the tranny mount could be stressed again. That bushing drove me nuts when I first installed my lift I thought my control arms were blown out but it was that rod jumping around in the hole

Good to know. Thanks.

And I'll have to see about that bushing. I Just would like to find the cause of the loud clunk and the locking up. I don't know what's causing it.

Did it again today. It's the weirdest thing. Just out of nowhere It's a clunk clunk clunk clunk. It starts from the trans and Then back to the back axle. I can't even explain it. The sound moves from front to back. Then goes away. It didn't lock up today tho.

I don't have one. It's a 4inch lift and I've replaced the transfer mount once before. And everything is Still solid on the crossmember.

Front driveline ujoints. Too much play unbalancing the rear driveline. Swapped em out. Good as new.
