Tire size.... sorry...
I looked and looked for the 'tire questions go here' thread....but as I'm on my phone I can't seem to find it. Feel free to move this.
My 98 is currently on bfg 30x9.5's. They are a bit dry rotted and two are losing air. I'm shopping new tires and noticed that that size isn't overly abundant near me and isn't exactly cheap either. I researched the forum here and found that while stock sizes were 225/ .... the 235/ is closer to what I have now and will work fine. Is this true?
I know I'm losing almost an inch of diameter and @ /70/ I'm losing a half inch thickness...... but I really don't wheel at all and the most offroading I do is goofing around in the woods and launching my kayaks at the coast..(not in beach sand).
The real reason for this is there's a goodyear 50k mile tire at walmart I can get for 82 bucks. This makes me happy.
Thoughts?
Also...if I take one of these bfg's as a spare....how bad will that difference be for my t~case in case I had to run it say for two months????
Thanks!

I run 235/75/15 on my fully stock XJ.
The Wrangler Radial is a good tire, i would go with it.
Not sure about the t-case though.

A 235/75r15 work out to be 28.8 x 9.25 which to the eye is gonna be the same as a 29 x 9.50. You asked about a 70 series as opposed to the 75 and yes that would be a bit shorter. The 75 series will more than likely be much easier to find than the 70.
As far as running the 70s with a 75 I'm not too sure. There isn't much difference but there is some so my suggestion would be just buy a set of 75's.

Ok.... well I was under the impression that the tires I am looking at were .5" skinnier than my bfg's. Which isn't a big deal.... I'm more worried about the 1" of diameter difference in relation to using my 30" as a spare.
The more I think about it though....they will be under warranty so I would only run the spare 100miles tops if I needed to. Hmmm.... will that small usage mess with the t~case?
Either way... I think I'm going to get the wranglers.... thanks for the advice, I've read nothing but good about them online.
Still worried about the spare though.

I have seen repeatedly that if you run odd sized tires it damages your t~case.
The spare would be a good inch taller than the replacements.....
I could always let some air out! Lol!

This is what I was wondering when I first heard about this.
There's no problem then because as of right now....my linkage isn't working in my t~case anyway and if I put it in 4wd...I have to crawl under the truck to take it out. Lol
Thanks.
Goodyear wranglers it is.
