Tire Poll
It is time to replace the worn out tires on my Jeep. It's got 33-12.50's on it right now with a 5.5 inch lift. I'm kind of stuck between 2 tires though. The General Grabber AT2's (in a 33-12.50) or the BFG Mud Terrain KM2's (in a 32x11.50 - Price is a factor with the size). The Jeep is my daily driver but I like to take it off road on the weekends, whether to play in the mud, go fishing, trails, whatever. I'd like to start going to off road parks and do trail riding a little more often too. But, here in Kentucky, it can be 70 and sunny one week and then 15 and 2 ft of snow the next, So I need something that can keep up with the weather too.
Has anyone used either of these tires? If so, how do they do in the mud and/or snow? In your opinions, what would be in my best interest to purchase? Thanks everyone!

I know people with both tires who both say they are a good all around tire. Personally I like BFGs for mud and snow because of the cups on em they will toss just about anything out of their way to find solid ground. Yes they are a little more pricey but I believe they are worth it. Also I think they are rated for around 40-50000 miles

It just depends what YOU plan on using them for the most. If you do more road driving then an at will fit you best. If you don't put a lot of miles on the road and like to get in the sticky stuff a lot go with an mt. Both tires you're looking at are some nice rubbers, just depends what you use them for and what you want.

I've never personally tried General Grabber tires, but my opinion on BFG tires is that they suck in the rain, but otherwise are good tires. They also last forever. I put over 60,000 miles on my BFG A/T and they still had usable tread left when I upgraded to 31's, then 33's. I'm currently running Procomp Extreme Mud Terrains and I love them. They are very rough on the road (You feel a lot more of the road than with normal tires) but it's really not bad for mud tires. Almost all mud tires are rough on the road. The Pro comps also hold up pretty well for a mud terrain mainly driven on the road (It's my DD.) The sidewalls on the Procomps are absolutely amazing... They've taken one hell of a beating.

Thanks guys, I'm really leaning more towards the BFGs. My biggest concern with them in the first place was the tread life on the road and with it being my DD, I wanted to get something that I know will last. That, and I'm going to have to down size to 32's if I go with them because I dont have the extra cash for the 33s...

IMPO, I would go with the BFG. I like the taller, skinnier tires myself. A friend of mine is running the KM2s and is LOVING them. They see the road, rain, snow trails, light mud, rocks.... He hasn't had a problem one out of them.
I've stopped people that I've seen out running them and asked how they liked the tires and always get a great response. Always positive feedback.
As far as wanting to do more trails/ off road more often, I would get a MT. The BFGs are a tighter Mt then said SS or your typical older lug pattern of a MT. Plus they're siped. Helps the tire lugs out and helps you in the traction department.
As far as the the General Grabber AT2, I don't really know to much about the tire. I've seen it in pics and on a couple of things in my area but not many.
All is up to you though, what direction you want to go in. Good luck with your decision. Just don't buy one and then wish you had bought another. That gets expensive. Ask me how I know.
