Tire (in)decisions...
Alright so now that I've got my BB on my XJ, and have NO problem cutting my fenders, I'm trying to decide on tires.
I found a nice set of used 31x11.50x15 LTB's but am wondering if they'll fit on my wheels? My XJ came with aftermarket wheels but I have no clue of the dimensions... They have less backspacing than factory wheels but I can't find the width of the wheels. Would an 11.50 be too wide for the wheels? I'm assuming my wheels are in the 7"-8" width range.
I'm not worried about road noise and the flat spots that develop on the bias ply tires like LTB's. I was considering other similar size M/T tires but if I can go with a much more aggressive tire like the LTB's I am going to.

yep 11.50's will for on a 7" wide rim. The main thing is that they are 15x7 or 15x8...With bias ply I don't think it's road noise you must be worried about. it's the road manors I'd worry about and safety. If it was me and I drove it on the road quite a bit I would go with MT's radial over a bias ply. Bias ply's will not last with road driving.

That's the thing I was worried about. I don't want anything unsafe . I sometimes will have a carseat with my daughter in the back (not wheeling) and do not want to put her in ANY sort of serious risk.

I could be wrong but I have always been told don't run bias ply if you drive onroad a lot. Tire guy said they are an offroad only tire and should never be used on a DD. Plus a good aggressive MT like bioghorns, STT's and such will do just as well IMHO. I could be completely wrong on the safety issue of bias ply so maybe someone with more experience will chime in with their opinion. I myself would just not run them since road manors sucks and I'd hate to be on the highway and hit a slick spot or need to turn real fast and end in a nasty result.

Some of my other choices are...
Cooper ST-C
Kenda Klever
Dunlop Mud-Rover
Federal Runway Enduro M/T (8 ply... tough)
Any tire I get will be in a 31" and one of my friends with 31" STT's is getting new tires and is giving me a decent one as a spare. I will NOT go without a fullsize spare.

bias ply tires are not deathtraps.
modern bias tires I have run (creepy crawlers and iroks) are very predictable on the street, almost perfectly round, and don't flat spot under the weight of my cherokee. There is no reason to avoid them, they will wear a little faster, its just the nature of the tire, and generally the softer tread compound. In fact iroks come pre-balanced from the factory.
old school bias ply tires on the other hand (tsl's, boggers) while they are still predictable and not deathtraps, come oval shaped and flat spot pretty badly.

I ran used 33" bias TSL's and had death wobble like crazy. I dumped them and got some BFG muds and no more DW.
My buddy runs boggers on the street all the time (37's on a spring over FJ60) and he seems to be fine.
Swampers are heavy as hell, I dont think that I would run them again on a Cherokee. Just my $.02.

Now I'm not saying a more aggressive tire is going to act the same. Some M/T's will probably bring out some DW, but I have no problem with replacing whatever it takes to fix it.
