Tire choices
Hi,
I'm new to the forum here. I recently purchased two 2000 XJs for my teenage kids. So far I have been very happy with the vehicles, and I enjoy driving them more than my own car.
Both Jeeps are in need of new tires, one has a set of passenger road tires, the other a more rugged on/off road variety. I was thinking of getting all terrain tires for the local back roads here in San Diego, and trips to the snow.
Both jeeps are completely stock and I am not interested in changing that ( lift kits etc.).
The driver door plate shows 215/75/ 15. Yet when I search online tire retailers they say stock is 225/75/15? Does it make any difference?
I have read good reviews on the forum regarding the BF Goodrich AT T/As...but it seems they are not listed on the BFG website. Are they discontinued?
What about General Grabbers or Kumhos? Just looking for a decent, safe, good value tire.... Any suggestions?
Thanks

No both those sizes will be fine. Go with the bigger though. You could even try a little bigger.
Go with the BFG at's. Great tire for road with a little off road.

235/75/R15 will fit perfect, you could even go 30x9.5 if you want, but idk if they would be "completely" rub free. Price difference in 215, 225, and 235 are like 5 bucks a tire at most. Definitely worth the size upgrade for the improved looks

235x75R15 works & looks great on stock XJ's, I had those on my old 1990 XJ for 10+ years (the BFG ATs last forever!). They won't give it quite the "cool" looking stance as 31's, but you won't have to worry about them rubbing anywhere, and you'll still keep somewhat (*cough*) decent gas mileage, too.

i'm running 235/75R15 M/Ts stock lift with no rub - they didn't rub with a sagging rear end either

I would go with the 235's as well. I'm running 235's on my stock XJ and it looks great! The BFG's have great reviews and have always been a good tire, but are a little pricier than some. Depends on what your budget is I guess. I would go to your local tire shop and tell them you are looking at outfitting both Jeep's with new tires. If they want your business they SHOULD give you some kind of discount!!
