hey everybody, i bought a 88 cherokee with a 4.0 in it recently, i noticed theres like this tin tubing by the air box on it. Its all torn up and broken, what is it? egr tubing?

possibly a warm air intake?

 

That's your pre heater tube. It's supposed to send warm air into the intake to help with warm up. When it gets hot enough a thermostat closes a flap in the air box to stop the hot air and let cold air in the front. I usually don't use it. I take it off.

Although.... Here in California I passed smog without it two years ago, then they failed me for not having it this year.... FYI
